Soda Stereo was a rock/new wave band from Argentina, active from 1980 until 1997. The group, consisting of members Gustavo Cerati, Charly Alberti, and Zeta Bosio, originated in Buenos Aires and released their debut LP in 1984. They played at the largest venues in Latin America, as well as shows in the U.S. and at the Seville Expo '92. Known for their clever and often mysterious lyrics, winsome musical arrangements, and elaborate aesthetic image, Soda Stereo established a template that influenced many other popular Argentine pop and rock music groups. After a series of farewell concerts in 1997, all three members moved on to other projects.
