Sodom is a German four-piece speed/thrash metal band, known for their significant influence on the modern black metal scene. The band was originally formed by Tom Angelripper, Bloody Monster, and Aggressor in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, as a way for Tom to escape working in coal mines. Drawing inspiration from bands like Motörhead, Tank, Venom, and Accept, they released two demos that led to a record deal with Steamhammer. The original line-up changed when Bloody Monster was replaced by Chris Witchunter, and shortly before the release of the influential EP "In the Sign of Evil," Aggressor left the band, leading to the brief addition of Grave Violator. Eventually, Michael "Destructor" Wulf joined the band, contributing to their full-length debut, "Obsessed by Cruelty," which continued the sound established in their earlier work. Wulf's departure saw Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik join the band, who shifted the band's lyrical themes from horror and occult to politics, society, and war. This change was showcased in their album "Persecution Mania," which received critical acclaim and introduced their mascot, Knarrenheinz. Following a successful tour with Coroner, Sodom released "Agent Orange," which sold over 100,000 copies in Germany alone, solidifying their status alongside Kreator and Destruction as one of the leading teutonic thrash metal bands. To date, "Agent Orange" remains the best-selling
