Sœur Marie Keyrouz, born in Deir-El-Ahmar, Lebanon, near the Roman city of Baalbeck, is a member of the Congrégation des Soeurs Basiliennes Chouérites. She is the founder-president of the National Institute of Sacred Music in Paris. Keyrouz identifies as a Maronite from her family's side and a Melkite through her religious congregation. She holds a Doctorate in Religious Musicology and Anthropology from Sorbonne University, Paris (1991), as well as an M.Phil. in Religious Sciences from Saint-Joseph's University, Beirut, and another in Western (Oratorio) and Oriental Classical Music (Vocal) from the University of the Holy Spirit, Kaslik.
