Sol Invictus is a music project founded by Tony Wakeford in 1987, following his involvement in a British punk band and a post-punk act. The early lineup included various members, and the band's music initially combined acoustic and electronic sounds, resulting in epic and dramatic songs that critique the "decadence" of the West and modern society. This sound is evident in their first three albums: "Against The Modern World" (1988), "In The Jaws Of The Serpent" (1989), and "Lex Talionis" (1990). In 1991, Ian Read left the band to pursue his own project, leading Wakeford to shift Sol Invictus's sound towards a dark folk style, with a changing lineup that included a violinist and a singer/instrumentalist. Over time, Wakeford's lyrics evolved from anti-modernism to more personal themes. The band has its own self-produced label, which has undergone several name changes.
