Steve Cobby, known by his stage name Solid Doctor, is a prominent figure in the music scene, particularly recognized for his work with the Hull-based trip-hop label Pork Recordings. He co-founded Pork in 1991 with his flatmate Dave Pork to release the first single from his side project, Fila Brazillia, which eventually became his primary focus. Under the Solid Doctor name, Cobby has released several full-length albums, including the notable double-disc compilation "How About Some Ether?" within a year of his debut. Cobby's music blends instrumental hip-hop, dub, funk, and house, garnering critical acclaim and helping to elevate the Pork label alongside contemporaries like Mo'Wax and Cup of Tea. His work aims to strike a balance between the dancefloor and hi-fi, emphasizing both groove and musicianship. In 2006, Cobby expanded his musical ventures by co-founding Steel Tiger Records with Sim Lister, featuring artists such as J*S*T*A*R*S, J J Fuchs, Peacecorps, and The Cutler, a collaboration with Porky.
