**Sonny Okosun** Born on January 1, 1947, in Enugu, Nigeria, Sonny Okosun was a renowned Nigerian singer, guitarist, and composer. He added the final "s" to his surname in adulthood and was known by both names. A self-taught guitar player, he formed a covers band called the Postmen, also known as the "Local Beatles," at the age of 17 in 1964. In 1965, he visited London with a theatre group for the 1st Commonwealth Arts Festival. However, the Biafran War in 1967 led to the dissolution of the Postmen and prompted Okosun and his family to move to Lagos, where he briefly worked in television before relocating to Benin. In 1969, he joined Victor Uwaifo's Melody Maestros as a second guitarist. In 1971, he formed his first professional band, Paperback Ltd., which he disbanded in 1974. He went on to establish another band, Ozziddi, in 1976. Okosun gained widespread popularity in West Africa during the late 1970s and early 1980s, achieving international recognition through collaborations with Eddy Grant. His album "Fire In Soweto," featuring its hit title track, became particularly successful. By the late 1980s, Okosun's popularity began to wane, but he reinvented himself as "Evangelist
