Sorceress is a 5-piece band from New Zealand, formerly known by another name. Their debut album, Chequered Thoughts, released in 2011, received worldwide acclaim, leading to tours in Europe and Japan the following year. In 2014, the band announced a new name, Sorceress, along with their new studio album, DOSE. While their earlier works drew inspiration from J Dilla's future soul and R&B, DOSE marks an evolution in their sound, blending elements of Deep Electronic Soul, Afrobeat, and Dance Music. The album maintains their signature sonic texture while offering more movement and a deeper exploration of the music's roots. It is designed for both headphone listening and club/festival experiences, navigating the space between audio intimacy and dancefloor rhythms. At the heart of Sorceress are producer Isaac Aesili and vocalist Rachel Fraser. Aesili's production creates a diverse and sonically rich soundscape, allowing Fraser's charismatic vocals to explore both light and dark lyrical themes. Crafted over a year, the album features collaboration with guitarist Daniel Ryland and includes contributions from fellow New Zealand musicians Julien Dyne, Marika Hodgson, Tom Broome, Jonathan Crayford, Steph Brown, and Cam Allen.
