Soul Hooligan, originally the solo project of Austin Reynolds, emerged in 1997 with the hit single "Sweat Pea." Following its success, Reynolds sought to perform live and brought in friends from his hometown of Brentwood, Essex, including Dave Jay and James Sumner, to form a band. The group caught the attention of Maverick Records after they heard an early demo of "Music Like Dirt," leading to a distribution deal in the USA, while their music was initially distributed in the UK by Freskanova Records. Various tracks from "Music Like Dirt" have been featured in television and movies, although there has been no update on a forthcoming new album.
