The Sound Providers are a jazz rap duo formed in 1998 in San Diego, California, originally consisting of producers and an MC who left the group shortly before they were signed by ABB Records. They produced several singles before releasing their debut album in 2004, recorded and produced in San Diego and Los Angeles. After the departure of the MC, they brought in various guest artists, including , , , and , to contribute to the album. Although primarily a DJ/producer, is known to occasionally rap, having done so briefly on their debut and on earlier tracks. In early 2006, they released another album, a compilation of earlier songs made when the original MC was still a member, which included tracks previously available only as 12" singles, along with radio promos and unreleased beats. That same year, they completed a full-length album with an emcee from Tampa, Florida, titled , with the first single released in June 2006. The full album was released on November 14, 2006. The Sound Providers' sound is predominantly jazz-oriented hip hop, though they explore a broader range of genres. Their style combines socially conscious lyrics with new school rap beats, incorporating samples from jazz, funk, and reggae. They have cited artists such as and the as influences on their work.
