Niko Schabel and Tom Wieland, known collectively as Sound Voyage, are inspired by the legacy of German World Jazz visionary Joachim-Ernst Berendt and his influential 1960s "Jazz meets the world" series on SABA records. Schabel, associated with Radio Citizen and the Express Brass Band, and a part-time member of the world jazz pioneers Embryo, hails from Berlin/Munich. Wieland, involved with 7 Samurai, Panoptikum Arkestra, and Les Gammas, is based in Vienna. Together, they travel the world to discover new rhythms and sounds, with their first stop in Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand. Their music is described as Post Kraut Exotica, blending traditional Southeast Asian music with western underground Electronica. The sound evokes imagery of Kraftwerk jamming in a Thai temple, guided by Moritz von Oswald.
