Sounds of The City Experience was a funk/soul group based in the Bronx, New York, active during the 1970s. They recorded a self-titled album under a notorious tax-dodging label. Their name reflected the essence of life in the Bronx during that era, capturing both the hustle and bustle and the sweetness and struggle of everyday experiences. The album showcases a blend of late-1960s US soul, early 1970s modern soul, funk, and disco. Despite being released in limited quantities, the album had the potential for greater success with a proper release. Although the cover suggests a girl vocal group, the band was primarily composed of men, with most of the vocal duties performed by women. They had previously recorded under a different name, releasing several tracks on their own label, Sounds Of The City, before transitioning to their final album. The album opens with "Getting Down," a standout track reminiscent of Blaxploitation soundtracks, featuring choppy rhythm guitars, screeching horns, and dynamic drums. While the quality of the remaining tracks varies, they still offer engaging vocals and arrangements, complemented by tight musicianship. Notable tracks include the doo-wop inspired "Through No Fault of Our Own," the silky smooth "Come And Stay With Me," and the disco-infused "It's So Wonderful Baby / Gina."
