Southside Movement is a funk band hailing from Chicago, Illinois. They initially began as the backing band for a soul duo. The first lineup, active from 1972 to 1973, included Morris Beeks on keyboards, Willie Hayes on drums and percussion, Stephen Hawkins on trumpet, Melvin Moore as the lead vocalist, Bobby Pointer on lead guitar, and Ronald Simmons on bass. From 1973 to 1975, the band underwent a lineup change, adding Milton Johnson on alto saxophone and Bill McFarland on trombone, while retaining Morris Beeks, Willie Hayes, Stephen Hawkins, Bobby Pointer, and Ronald Simmons.
