Sovjet War is a Belgian (post) punk band from Leuven, active from 1982 to 1984 and reformed in 2019. The band evolved from an earlier group that existed from 1979 to 1981. As harder punk music began to decline, Sovjet War adapted by changing their name and incorporating poppier influences into their sound. During their initial two years, they played extensively, performing about twice a week alongside bands such as The Sound and others. After a period of hibernation, they reformed shortly before the Covid-19 lockdown, releasing a comeback album and EP. Sovjet War's sound balances on the border between old school punk and dark post-punk.
