Spacer is a project by renowned electronica engineer and producer Luke Gordon, who was inspired to explore electronic-dance music after hearing Herbie Hancock's classic "Rockit." By the early '90s, Gordon began his career as an engineer for various acts, including the Sandals, La Funk Mob, and Chris Bowden. His passion for creating his own music led to several of his tracks appearing on obscure compilations before the release of Spacer's debut album, "Atlas Earth," in 1996. This album featured guest musicians such as Bowden, Ian "Juryman" Simmonds, and Max Moore. That same year, Spacer's track "Contrazoom" was released as a single and gained popularity in dance clubs, appearing on the compilation "Pussy Galore." In 1997, Gordon remixed tracks for other artists, including the Cure's "Gone," and released the collaborative album "Mail Order Justice" under the credit Simmonds vs. Spacer, along with his solo album "Sensory Man." Spacer toured Europe in 1998, and during this time, Gordon produced Red Snapper's second album, "Making Bones," and worked with the band Dip, which included former Sugarcubes member Sigi. In 2001, Gordon completed Spacer's third release, "Beamer," a sonically rich album that incorporates house, techno, dub, jazz, orchestrated strings, and brass.
