Spanky Wilson, born circa 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a renowned soul, funk, and jazz vocalist. Raised in Pittsburgh, she made a significant impact on the music scene after moving to Los Angeles. Wilson began her career performing live gigs, including a notable appearance as the featured vocalist with the Jimmy Smith Trio at Shelly's Manne-Hole in May 1967. Her influence on the local jazz scene quickly grew, and by March 1969, she was headlining at the club. By 1973, her prominence in the US jazz scene was recognized when she was nominated for Female Jazz Singer of the Year by Ebony Magazine.
