Sparklehorse was an American indie rock band formed in Richmond, Virginia, led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous. Active from 1995 until Linkous' death in 2010, the band emerged after Linkous had fronted local groups Johnson Family and Salt Chunk Mary, with only one song, "Someday I Will Treat You Good," surviving from those earlier projects to be played by Sparklehorse. Linkous chose the name Sparklehorse because he felt the two words sounded good together and thought it could loosely serve as a metaphor for a motorcycle.
