Special Delivery is a musical group that was formed in 1972 under the name ACT 1, consisting of members Reginald Ross, George Parker, and Roger Terry. Terry Huff joined the group in 1974, and they collaborated with producer/songwriter Rafael Gerald to release one album in 1974 on Spring Records. After leaving Spring Records for Mainstream Records, the group re-formed with Huff and changed their name to Special Delivery. In 1975, the group recorded the ballad “I Destroyed Your Love,” written by Huff, which became a staple on quiet storm radio stations and charted on the low end of the R&B charts. However, before Mainstream could record a follow-up, the group disbanded due to musical, business, and personal differences. Following the disbandment, Terry Huff recorded and produced "The Lonely One" with assistance from Al Johnson, who was a friend of Huff. The track featured backing vocals from Huff's brothers, Andy and Jimmy, and was released by Mainstream as being by Special Delivery featuring Terry Huff. The song's success led to a demand for an LP, prompting Huff and Johnson to rush to New York to record. In 1978, the group recorded an album without Terry Huff on Shield Records, produced by George Parker.
