Spectrum City is a group that originated as a sound system in Long Island in 1975, founded by Hank Shocklee (also known as Boxley). In 1978, his brother Keith joined the group, followed by Chuck D in 1979. They gained exposure by securing a slot on the local radio station WBAU in 1982, where Bill Stephney was the program director and Flavor Flav also hosted a show. Spectrum City released one single on the Vanguard label but then went inactive. The group made a comeback in 1987 with new members and a focused plan under a new moniker.
