The Spiders were an American garage rock band formed in Phoenix, Arizona, originally known as The Earwigs in the spring of 1964. They adopted the name The Spiders in 1965 and relocated to Los Angeles in March 1967. In April 1967, they changed their name again. The original lineup included a vocalist who later became known as a different name, a bassist, and a guitarist. In the fall of 1965, they added a rhythm guitarist and a drummer, leading to their renaming. A new guitarist replaced Tatum in 1966. In September 1967, fellow Phoenix musician and friend moved in with the band and took over drumming duties later that fall. By March 1968, the band changed their name once more to avoid confusion with another group.
