Spliff was a German band founded in 1980 as a follow-up project after a member left during the recording sessions for their second album, titled "Unbehagen," which is a wordplay on her last name meaning "discomfort" or "uneasiness." Their first album was a concept album parodying a radio broadcast about the music industry and the risks of stardom, with all lyrics in English. From their second album onward, they began using German lyrics and combined rock music with styles like synth-pop, heavy rock, and funk, creating a unique sound that reflected the atmosphere of the Cold War era in 1980s West Berlin, where they resided. They achieved notable success in Germany, charting with several albums and singles, with their greatest hit being "Carbonara," featured on many 80s compilations. In 1985, following the unexpected success of their album, the group disbanded. A short-lived successor project emerged without one of the original members, although he contributed one track.
