**Spontaneous Combustion** was an English progressive rock and hard rock trio formed in 1971. The band consisted of a drummer, a guitarist/vocalist, and Gary's brother on bass/vocals. Their talent was initially discovered by someone who brought them to Harvest Records. In 1971, they released their first single and their self-titled debut album, which featured elaborate keyboard and guitar codas and was produced by Lake himself. Their second album followed a similar style but was largely ignored upon release. The group's final release under the Spontaneous Combustion name was a single in 1973. In 1975, they released an album under a new band name due to legal complications surrounding the Spontaneous Combustion name. After the band broke up, Margetts frequently collaborated with Lake, while his brother left the music industry. Brock joined other bands and later became part of Rod Stewart’s backing group in the 1980s.
