Spooky Tooth was formed in 1967 and quickly transitioned into progressive rock during the vibrant late 60s. The original lineup consisted of keyboardist and vocalist Gary Wright (b. 26 April 1943, Englewood, New Jersey, USA), drummer Mike Kellie (b. 24 March 1947, Birmingham, England), guitarist Luther Grosvenor (b. 23 December 1946, Evesham, Worcestershire, England), vocalist Mike Harrison (b. 3 September 1945, Carlisle, Cumberland, England), and bassist Greg Ridley (b. 23 October 1947, Cumberland, England). Their dedication to the English club scene paid off, although their main commercial success was in the USA. They were known for their hard-edged imaginative covers of non-originals alongside their own songwriting talents. Their album "Ceremony" marked a change in direction, but it received a lukewarm reception, despite featuring a notable cover painting by British artist John Holmes. Following this, the band experienced several personnel changes: Ridley left to join Humble Pie, Wright formed Wonderwheel, and Grosvenor later became known as "Ariel Bender" in Stealers Wheel and Mott The Hoople. Three members of the Grease Band—Henry McCullough, Chris Stainton, and Alan Spenner—joined the group. However, the band broke up shortly after the release of their album. Various members
