Square One is an English rapping German Hip Hop band formed by Ali Rakhshandeh and Iman Shahidi in the early 1990s in Munich. The duo initially started with a pre-production studio, which did not achieve much success, leading Ali to move to the US. After returning to Germany a year later, they attempted to revive their music career. A significant party at Ali's club in Munich, where he invited renowned German Hip Hop DJs, helped them gain recognition. They were subsequently signed by the Hamburg-based label "Showdown," and DJ Edward Sizzerhand and MC Gianni joined the group. Their first 12" single, "Mind, Body And Soul," was released in 1999, and Rasul also produced a notable solo track under the Square One name for DJ Thomilla's "Genuine Draft" album. Their next 12" single, "State Of The Art," marked their breakthrough, followed by the 2001 release "Walk of Life," which featured collaborations with Munich rappers "Providence" and "Yinka," as well as Reggae artist "Patrice."
