Stan Kenton was an American jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader known for his innovative big band music. He was born on December 15, 1911, in Wichita, Kansas, and became a prominent figure in the development of progressive jazz in the 1940s and 1950s. Kenton's orchestras were known for their unique sound, characterized by bold arrangements and a focus on complex harmonies. He was also influential in incorporating elements of classical music into jazz. Throughout his career, he recorded numerous albums and was recognized for his contributions to the jazz genre. Kenton passed away on August 25, 2000.
