Star Number One is a music group that emerged in 1976, formed by former members of the renowned Star Band who had a falling out with founder Ibra Kassé. The group, initially named Starband Numero Un, was compelled to remove the Star Band reference from its name. They retained the "Numero Un" but translated it into English, leading to the release of albums under the name Star Number One. Over time, the group underwent slight name variations, including Orchesta Number One de Dakar, Number One du Senegal, Number One, No. 1 De Dakar, and Starband Number One, with abbreviated forms of "Number One" appearing on various releases. The founding members include a trumpeter and several vocalists, and the group's sound is heavily influenced by Cuban music.
