Stark Reality was an American jazz-rock band based in Boston, Massachusetts, active from 1969 to 1970. The group is known for their 1970 album, "The Stark Reality Discovers Hoagy Carmichael's Music Shop," which is a heavily-improvised reinterpretation of a 1958 children's album by songwriter Hoagy Carmichael, originally intended for the PBS show "Hoagy Carmichael's Music Shop." The band consisted of Monty Stark on vibraphone, Carl Atkins on saxophone, John Abercrombie on guitar, Phil Morrison on bass, and Vinnie Johnson on drums.
