**Starpoint Bio** Starpoint is a soul, funk, disco, and boogie band formed in 1978 in Annapolis, Maryland, originally under the name "Lycindiana," which was a combination of three related females. The group consists of four brothers and their long-time friend, along with a singer who is a former lover. They released ten albums in the 1980s, primarily produced by an unnamed producer. Their biggest hit, "Object Of My Desire," remains their sole top 40 hit on the U.S. pop chart. The band began as a horn section in their youth but found it challenging to create a band with two trumpets, a clarinet, and a flute, leading them to learn more conventional instruments. Their father, a psychiatrist at Crownsville State Mental Hospital, would have them entertain the patients, providing them with a captive audience. It was during one of these performances that the brothers met Renee, whom brother George convinced to join them on stage with her all-girl singing trio. The name "Starpoint" originated from a conversation with a friend who referred to a "starpoint screwdriver," which the brothers learned was a Phillips screwdriver. Since they are the Phillips brothers, they adopted the name, attributing a meaning that emphasizes giving your all and aiming for the stars to achieve success.
