Warren McGlone, known by his stage name Steady B, was born on September 17, 1969, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is an American rapper and emcee who gained notoriety in the mid to late 1980s, alongside other Philadelphia-area artists such as Schoolly D, the Fresh Prince, and Three Times Dope. Steady B's musical career was relatively brief, and he is currently serving a life sentence in a Pennsylvania state prison for his involvement in the murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Lauretha Vaird during a botched bank robbery in January 1996. On January 2, 1996, Steady B, along with his C.E.B. bandmate Cool C and another local rapper, Mark Canty, attempted to rob a PNC bank branch. During the incident, Officer Vaird was shot and killed by Cool C after responding to the bank's silent alarm. Steady B was arrested shortly after the robbery, and evidence, including two handguns left at the scene and his confession during interrogation, led to his conviction. At his trial, testimony from his wife and incriminating statements by Canty were presented as evidence. On October 30, 1996, Steady B was convicted of second-degree murder, and on December 13, 1996, he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
