Steffen Basho-Junghans was a German guitarist and composer, born on November 27, 1953, in Vielau, Saxonia, German Democratic Republic. He passed away on December 1, 2022. At the age of 17, he taught himself to play acoustic guitar and formed a folk band in 1978. In 1979, influenced by an American guitarist, he began performing solo instrumental music on 6- and 12-string guitar. Throughout the 1980s, he was inspired by artists on a specific record label and discovered the music of a notable figure, leading him to explore the works of Japanese haiku poet who had influenced Robbie Basho. As a mark of respect, Steffen Junghans incorporated the name 'Basho' into his own. During this period, he lectured on acoustic guitar history and performed numerous concerts. His music featured unorthodox explorations between traditions and experimentation, drawing influences from North American Indian, Asian, New music, and European classical music.
