Sten Hanson was a Swedish experimental poet and composer, born on April 15, 1936, in Klövsjö, Sweden. He passed away on November 1, 2013, in Stockholm, Sweden. From an early age, he recognized the significance of tape-recording techniques in the evolution of poetry. His artistic work often integrated text, sound, and visual images, frequently showcased through intensely personal live performances. Hanson was a pioneer in the field of multimedia art, creating electro-acoustic pieces as well as instrumental and vocal compositions. From the late 1960s until 1979, he focused primarily on electroacoustic music, collaborating with Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Åke Hodell, and Bengt Emil Johnson to develop the theory and practice of a new aesthetic field known as "the electronic text-sound." His diverse body of work included television productions, ballet music, audiovisual performances supported by computers, pieces for instruments and tape or electronics, orchestral works, and computer music. Hanson held several prominent positions in the music community, serving as Director (1968-1977) and later Chairman (1980-1984) of Fylkingen, Chairman of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) from 1975 to 1981, and was a member of the Royal Academy of Music of Sweden.
