Stéphane Grappelli was a renowned French jazz violinist, pianist, saxophonist, and accordionist, born on January 26, 1908, in Paris. He passed away on December 1, 1997, in the same city. Originally named Stéfano Grappelli, his first name was gallicized to Stéphane. Initially billed as Stéphane Grappelly, the spelling of his last name changed to Grappelli in the 1960s, although he continued to sign his name as "Grappelly." Grappelli is celebrated as one of the greatest pre-bop jazz violinists, known for his legendary collaboration with Django Reinhardt in the '30s and '40s as part of the Quintette du Hot Club de France. The group disbanded at the onset of World War II, leading Grappelli to relocate to London while Reinhardt remained in France. In England, he performed alongside various pianists. Following the war, Grappelli featured on hundreds of recordings, collaborating with numerous artists, including several more sessions with Django Reinhardt. He maintained an active performance schedule worldwide until his death at the age of 89.
