Steve Gray (18 April 1944 – 20 September 2008) was a British pianist, composer, and arranger. He began his career as a pianist in the early 1960s and transitioned into professional music as a session player. During the 1970s, Gray worked as a session keyboard player for notable artists such as Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Michel Legrand, Lalo Schifrin, Peggy Lee, Sammy Davis Jr., and John Barry. He also explored composition, creating background music for films, radio, and television. In addition, he led his own quintet, Wasp, featuring ex-Shadows drummer Brian Bennett and saxophonist-composer Duncan Lamont, producing a diverse mix of light funk, classical, disco, Latin, jazz, and electronic music for the KPM company. Gray was born in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire, England, and passed away in 2008.
