Stimela, the Zulu word for "locomotive," is a South African band that emerged in 1981 from the remnants of guitarist and leader Ray Phiri's previous group, The Cannibals. The band quickly became an institution in their home country. The lineup included Ray Phiri on vocals and guitars, Nana Coyote on vocals (1955 - July 5, 2010), Isaac Mtshali on drums, Jabu Sibumbe on bass, Thabelo Kgomo on keyboards, and Lloyd Lelosa on keyboards and piano. Ray Phiri passed away in South Africa in July 2017.
