Stomu Yamash'ta's Red Buddha Theatre was established in Japan in 1971. After several months of work, the company was brought to Europe in the summer of 1972 by its producer, director, and composer. They performed in London and France, taking up residency at a Paris theatre from August 1972 to January 1973 before returning to London for performances at the Roundhouse. The soundtrack album for "The Man From The East" was recorded with a new jazz trio formed by Stomu Yamash'ta after his previous group disbanded. This unnamed group included drummer Pert, a keyboardist, and a bassist, and would later adopt a name. Pert also participated in live stage performances by the Red Buddha Theatre.
