The Stranglers are an English rock band formed on September 11, 1974, in Guildford, Surrey, UK, originally known as the Guildford Stranglers. The band's lineup initially included (vocals, guitar), (bass, vocals), Brian Duffy (drums), and (keys). After Wärmling left in 1975, he was replaced by . The Stranglers' early sound featured Burnel's melodic bass and Greenfield's prominent keyboards, alongside the growling vocals and often misanthropic lyrics of Burnel and Cornwell. In 1977, the band briefly performed as the Mutations, fronted by vocalist . This phase lasted for one single, after which only Burnel remained in the project for the A-side of the second single. On April 3rd and 4th, 1980, the band scheduled gigs under the banner of , featuring guest performers due to Hugh's arrest on drug charges. Cornwell left the band in 1990 to pursue a solo career, with Paul Roberts taking over on vocals and John Ellis on guitar. During this time, Roberts performed tracks traditionally sung by Burnel. In 1993, Tim Bruce filled in on drums during a tour when Jet was ill. Ellis departed in 2000, and was succeeded by guitarist . When Roberts left in 2006 over creative disagreements, Warne became the lead vocalist and re-recorded tracks alongside Burnel. Jet Black faced
