Sugar Pie DeSanto was an American R&B singer, songwriter, and dancer, born on October 16, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. She passed away on December 20, 2024. Sugar Pie was the sister of an undisclosed individual and was born to an African-American mother and a Filipino father. She grew up in San Francisco, California, where she had a childhood friend who later became famous. During the 1950s and 1960s, Sugar Pie toured with various artists and collaborated with notable musicians. She was married to an individual known as Parham, after which she changed her name. Following her divorce, she moved to Chicago, where she continued to record successfully and write songs for other artists, often in collaboration with unnamed partners. Throughout her career, Sugar Pie DeSanto received several accolades, including a Bay Area Music Award in 1999 for Best Female Blues Singer, a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in September 2008, and a lifetime achievement award from the Goldie Awards in November 2009.
