Sundar Popo, born on November 4, 1943, in Monkey Town, Debe, Trinidad, was a Trinidadian chutney artist renowned as the father of chutney music. He achieved significant recognition in 1969 with his first hit, "Nani and Nana," and continued to produce numerous hits throughout his career, performing regularly until his passing on May 2, 2000. A statue honoring him is located near his former home in Debe.
