Super Cat, born in 1966 in Seivright Gardens, Kingston, is a legendary Jamaican DJ who began his career in the 1970s as a live-DJ for soundsystems, initially toasting under the alias Cat-A-Rock. He released his first single, "Mr. Walker," in 1982 for the Techniques label. After a brief stint in jail, he became a regular DJ on sound systems, earning the nickname "Wild Apache." In the latter half of the 1980s, Super Cat gained immense popularity with a series of hits, establishing himself as one of Jamaica's top DJs. In the early 1990s, he relocated to New York and signed a major deal with Columbia, leading to several albums and singles. However, by the late 1990s, Super Cat seemed to fade from the spotlight, and an attempt to revive his career with the Neptunes' label was unsuccessful. Despite this, he remains a significant figure in dancehall history, known for his strict dubplate cutting policy, which makes his dubplates highly coveted among soundmen for soundclashes.
