Super Diamono de Dakar, also known simply as Super Diamono, was a ten-member band from Dakar, Senegal, formed in 1974 or 1975. One of the founding members, Omar Pene, played a significant role in the group, which was alternately led by various singers. Initially rooted in traditional West African music, the band quickly evolved to incorporate Afro-Cuban and pop influences, coining the term "Mbalax-Blues" for their sound starting in 1977. In 1979, a co-founder rejoined the band as a guitar player but soon departed to pursue a solo career. According to Billboard Magazine, Super Diamono was recognized as Senegal's "first truly local pop style." Many former members later achieved solo success after their time with the band.
