Super Jamano de Dakar, also known as Super Diamono or Super Diamono de Dakar, was a ten-member band from Dakar, Senegal, formed in 1974 or 1975. Omar Pene was a founding member, and the group was alternately led by various singers. Initially, they started with traditional West African music but quickly transitioned to an Afro-Cuban and pop-influenced sound. From 1977, they referred to their music as "Mbalax-Blues." In 1979, a co-founder of the group rejoined as a guitar player but soon left again to pursue a solo career. According to Billboard Magazine, Super Jamano de Dakar was recognized as Senegal's "first truly local pop style." Many former members later achieved solo success after their time with the band.
