Superchunk is an American indie rock band formed in 1989 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The band's classic lineup has included Mac McCaughan on lead vocals and guitar, Laura Ballance on bass, Jim Wilbur on guitar, and Jon Wurster on drums. In 2013, Jason Narducy joined as the live and touring bass player, while Ballance continued to contribute to studio recordings. Since 2023, Betsy Wright and Narducy have shared bass duties for various live concerts. Longtime drummer Jon Wurster retired in February 2023 and was succeeded by Laura King. Founding members Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance also established Merge Records in 1989, through which they have released all Superchunk LPs since "Foolish" in 1994.
