The Swingle Singers is an original French vocal group founded in 1962, known for their specialization in singing classical songs with a cappella and jazz arrangements. They gained significant popularity in the USA, winning three Grammy Awards in 1964 and 1965. The group disbanded in 1973, after which Ward Swingle moved to England and formed a new group with an expanded repertoire. The original double-quartet included altos Alice Herald and Anne Germain, sopranos Christiane Legrand and Jeanette Baucomont, tenors Claude Germain and Ward Swingle (who also served as the arranger), and basses Jean Cussac and José Germain.
