Sylvan Morris was a Jamaican recording and mixing engineer, born in 1949. He studied at Jamaica Technical High School and began his career in 1965 as an assistant to the chief engineer at an unnamed studio. He later worked at another studio for about six months before moving to Studio One in 1968. Morris is credited by some artists and experts with creating the "Studio One sound" and handling all session work, although he was never officially credited. He left Studio One around 1974 and joined another unnamed studio. In 2009, he was honored by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association for his contributions as an engineer, alongside another individual. In the 2000s, Morris became blind and passed away on June 17, 2023, at the age of 74 in his home in St. Andrews, Jamaica.
