Sylvester, born on September 6, 1947, in Watts, Los Angeles, California, was an American disco and soul vocalist, musician, bandleader, songwriter, and producer. Known mononymously as "Sylvester," he is recognized as one of the first Hi-NRG artists and the first “male diva” of disco. Sylvester passed away on December 16, 1988, in San Francisco, California, due to complications from HIV/AIDS.
