Syntoma is a Mexican synth-pop/techno group, known for being one of the first to produce techno music in Mexico. Active from 1981 to 1985, the group was formed by former Queso Sagrado member, who was eager to adopt an electronic style but faced disagreement from his bandmates. On the night of Queso Sagrado's dissolution in 1981, Syntoma was created, featuring him along with two other members, performing their first live show shortly thereafter. In an era when there was little commercial interest in the genre in Mexico, Syntoma initially produced homemade cassettes to share their music. They released two singles, 'No Me Puedo Controlar' (1983) and 'Lost in Space' (1984), as well as a self-titled album, 'Syntoma' (1982). Their music combined synthesizers with tropical rhythms, which they referred to as “electropical-urban,” and remains fundamental in the history of Mexican synth-pop.
