S.Y.P.H. is a German band that emerged in 1977 in Solingen, Germany, blending elements of Punk, Avantgarde, and Neue Deutsche Welle. Founded by Peter Braatz, the band initially adopted the name "Syph" for its provocative connotation, later adding periods to create an acronym that would confuse listeners. The name was translated to "Saufender Yankee Prügelt Homo" (Boozing yankee pummels fag) and, after 1986, it came to represent "Save Your Pretty Heart." Following the departure of Schwebel, the band welcomed new members, maintaining a relatively stable lineup until 1981 while featuring numerous guest musicians, including Jaki Liebezeit from Can. In a reciprocal arrangement, Liebezeit collaborated with Holger Czukay on his LP, and Czukay also appeared on the Wobble/Liebezeit/Czukay EP "How Much Are They?". The band went on hiatus in 2003 but has since resumed its activities.
