Tèsfa-Maryam Kidané, an Ethiopian saxophonist, emerged as a remarkable stylist between 1965 and 1972. Influenced by American radio broadcasts from the U.S. base in Asmara, he developed a distinctive "American" ear. Kidané began his musical journey with the Police Orchestra in Asmara and later joined the second Ras Band and The All Star Band. In 1972, he pursued further studies at the Berklee College of Music in the United States. Notable works include "Heywèté" and "Yètèsfa Tezata," featured in the "Éthiopiques" series. Today, he continues to perform in clubs serving the Ethiopian and Eritrean diasporas in the U.S. ([amf.didiermary.fr](https://amf.didiermary.fr/tesfa-maryam-kidane-heywete/?utm_source=openai))
