Tab Smith was an American jazz and rhythm and blues saxophonist and clarinettist, born on January 11, 1909, in Kinston, North Carolina. He passed away on August 17, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout his career, Tab worked with notable musicians and groups, including Lucky Millinder, "The Mills Rhythm Boys," and Count Basie. He played in St. Louis during the early 1930s and returned in the late 1940s, where he remained active in the local music scene until his death in 1971.
