Tabu Ley Rochereau was an influential African rumba singer-songwriter and politician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, born on November 13, 1940, and passed away on November 30, 2013. He was a pioneer of soukous music, blending Congolese folk music with elements from Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin American rumba, which helped to internationalize his sound. Tabu Ley was the father of 68 children, including a French rapper, and he was also the grandfather of a Belgian francophone rapper.
