Take 6 is an a cappella gospel group that originated around 1980 on the campus of Oakwood College, an HBCU in Huntsville, Alabama, initially known as "A Special Blend." The original members included Lori Bryant and Joya Foster, among others, all of whom were students at the college. As members graduated, the group's lineup changed. By 1987, they signed with a record label and renamed themselves Take 6, introducing new members. In 1989, they signed with another label, and in 1990, Warren left the group and was replaced by Mark's brother. Another member joined later. Take 6 has enjoyed a crossover audience, blending jazz, gospel, and R&B in their music. They are members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and have won 10 Grammy Awards, making them one of the most awarded vocal groups, with accolades spanning jazz, gospel, and contemporary categories from their debut in the late 1980s through the 2000s, alongside numerous Dove Awards and other honors.
